Wedding centerpiece ideas

Wedding centerpieces are one of many things the happy couple need to think about and plan for during the wedding preparations.

These centerpieces needn’t be too costly or extravagant. However, they should be eye-catching and complement the general color and theme of the wedding.

Some wedding centerpiece ideas are traditional and classical, but they could also be used to reflect the individual interests or personalities of the couple.

They could also be just downright fun… or funny!

Here are 4 wedding centerpiece ideas worth considering:

1. Say it with flowers

Flowers are relatively inexpensive and a ’safe’ choice. They are naturally beautiful, but make sure they complement the color scheme and theme of the wedding.

Lilies or roses create a classical elegance, whilst gerbera or sunflowers suggest a bright, fun wedding/couple.

Something a little more exotic, such as Bird of Paradise or palms are dramatic and create an immediate impact.

Pot plants are also an option which can add interest and which can be given as gifts after the wedding is over.

2. Edible Centerpieces

Many popular wedding centerpiece ideas include fruit or other edibles. This serves a dual purpose of being visually impressive as well giving guests something to snack on.

Some popular combinations are strawberries and chocolate or lemons with white chocolate, which support a particular color scheme very effectively. The display could include a few pieces of fruit or a whole tower.

Pumpkins and squashes also create an impact and can add to the harvest or Halloween atmosphere of an Autumn wedding.

3. Glassware and candles

Candles can make alternative wedding centerpiece ideas and could incorporate floating candles with flower or fruit shapes.

It is easy to add interest before the fading light allows the candles to come into their own, by adding ornate candlearbras, possibly dripping with jewels to reflect light.

The use of glass bowls or vases for floating candles is another interesting idea which allows for added color and shape.

Pebbles, shells and colored sand are other ideas worth considering to fill the glassware, in place of candles or water.

4. Be practical

It’s easy to get carried away with creativity but don’t forget the practicalities when considering your wedding centerpiece ideas.

If the centerpiece is too large or imposing it could take over the table and prevent the guests from seeing each other.

Over-powering smells could also be off putting when guests are eating.

Apart from these obvious considerations, there are no rules when it comes to wedding centerpieces. It’s your wedding so do what you want.

It’s possible to stay as simple and safe as you like, or even to go to town and create a really individual statement, as long as the rest of the wedding is in keeping with this.

Fancy something a bit different?

If you’re looking for something a bit different, here are some of the themes you might consider:

  • Retro
  • Japanese (Bonsai trees and origami)
  • Beach/seaside (shells, sand and pebbles)
  • Gothic
  • Countryside (grasses, wheat, meadow flowers).

As you can see from even these few wedding centerpiece ideas, the possibilities are endless and needn’t cost a fortune.

Happy wedding planning!

Floral Wedding Centerpiece Ideas

If you’re looking for wedding centerpiece ideas, using seasonal food, fruit and colors is a great idea for saving money and helping you to stick to a theme.

Using edibles and flowers that are in season will save you money rather than going for expensive imported flowers. If you’re stuck for ideas, just look around you for inspiration!

Christmas

A Christmas wedding has all kinds of associations you can make use of including colors: red, green, white, silver and gold for instance.

Flower centerpieces can include foliage such as holly and ivy, which set off a bright red or white flower beautifully. You could enhance the wedding table with decorated fir cones, cherubs, candles, glitter and sparkle.

The possibilities are endless and there are some real bargains to be had if you buy seasonal.

Fall

My wedding was held in October so the Fall theme was easy to have some fun with.

I loved the idea of using fruit and vegetables instead of the usual flower arrangement. We decided to go for cut and whole pomegranites and gourds and physallis. You could try scooping out the pumpkins to create vases.

We also used black sparkling candles which looked stunning as the light faded and made the colors of the fruit and vegetables stand out even more.

We even added a small amount of black grass which complemented the rest of the centerpiece and hinted at Halloween but were not too over powering and gothic.

The wedding centerpieces fitted in perfectly with color scheme and bridesmaids flowers which were a mixtures of oranges and reds.

The feedback we had from our guests was that they really appreciated the effort and originality we put into our wedding.

Summer

Summer weddings can be really bright and fun, with a huge range of colors and flowers to choose from which will be easy and cheap to buy, particularly in larger quantities.

Sunflowers, iris, gladioli and roses are just a few of the striking and colorful flowers available at this time of year.

A more, gentle, meadowy feel could be created by using cornflowers and daisies as well as grasses. These flowers can be included in the dresses and head dresses worn by the bridesmaids and even the bride!

Try using summer fruits like pineapples, mangoes, even coconuts, which can be displayed whole or sliced and arranged decoratively. They’ll smell delicious and can even be eaten if the guests get peckish between courses!

Seasonal wedding centerpiece ideas can complement any theme you choose with a bit of imagination. You can make life easier and cheaper for yourself by making the most of the seasonal products around you.
